Story

Sara Chidouin returns home from school late one night to discover that something's gone terribly wrong. When she comes to, she finds herself, her friend Joe, and 9 other people trapped in a mysterious place. Placed in life-and-death situations, they must come to an agreement about what they should do - and who should die.

As a die hard fan of Danganronpa, Your turn to die immediately gripped me with its premise and I can assure you that the story is just as good if not better than the Danganronpa series. Each of the characters felt very realistic and there were lots of raw emotions shown throughout the game. It perfectly encapsulates the idea of what would happen when a bunch of strangers are forced into playing life-and-death games.

Do note that the game is still in early access and is not completed as of the time of this review.

Gameplay

The game works similarly to the Danganronpa series where you are given time to roam about the location you are in, finding items around the place or gathering information from others to solve the mystery that lies ahead. During this phase, there are mini-games during each chapter that will impact the story as it continues. Thankfully, most of them are manageable and if you do require help you can always visit a walkthrough online to assist you with it.

Once the roaming phase is over, there is a discussion phase where you have to extract information and find faults from the other players' statements to figure out any mysteries that require solving. After finding out the truth, you'll enter the voting phase and decide on who to lynch.

Puzzles

➕Lots of enjoyable deduction and logical thinking required. As a murder mystery game, lots of deduction is required especially during the discussion phase to figure out the mystery at that time. The euphemism from solving a mystery is extremely satisfying and you'll keep wanting more.

➖Puzzle mini-games are a hit or miss. While I enjoyed many of the puzzle mini-games in the first half of the game, the second half of the game felt more like trial and error and required me to reload my save a few times.

➖Multiple endings will require multiple saves. As someone who strives for the "true" ending, it is difficult to tell which choices matter and which would lead to it without looking up a walkthrough. This required me to have multiple save slots and I eventually had to cave in and check the walkthrough after finishing each section.

Verdict

A wonderful murder mystery-esque game that is heavily inspired by Danganronpa. I highly recommend this game to fans of danganronpa and the murder mystery genre.
