Premise
"Phantom Peak" offers a distinctive experience, combining elements of an escape room, immersive theater, and real-life video game. It immerses participants in a fully interactive open-world environment reminiscent of West World, creating an alternative to once impossible experiences.
Setting
Upon arrival, participants are required to sign a waiver and receive
health and safety guidelines. They are then transported to the town of
Jonas Co, clearly inspired by the wild west.
Gameplay
In "Phantom Peak," players utilize the provided website to navigate various trails. A series of questions helps determine the appropriate trail, each lasting an hour and involving quests to "save" Phantom Peak. Completing each trail grants you a tarot card with the title of the trail.
The gameplay requires participants to answer questions by visiting locations, interacting with live actors (NPCs), using their machines to gather information, or uncovering hidden answers within the premises. Some questions lead to humorous and whimsical interactions, adding to the experience.
One notable drawback is the back-and-forth travel between locations, as each subsequent question often requires moving to an area opposite to the current location. While this might have been designed to allow NPCs more rest time, it can be inconvenient.
Additionally, some puzzles are straightforward, requiring little puzzle-solving effort, which may disappoint puzzle enthusiasts.
Verdict
"Phantom Peak" offers an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind experience. It's recommended for anyone looking to try something unique. While the back-and-forth travel and the simplicity of some puzzles could be improved, it remains a remarkable adventure worth experiencing multiple times.
