Premise
Murder
on the Orient Express. The perpetrator is still on board, but there is
only a short time left until the train reaches the final station. The
case is tricky and you need to act as quickly as possible so that the
person you're looking for doesn't escape.
Components
If you've played other games from the Exit series, you'll be very familiar with the components it contains. Each game from its series always comes with a deck of cards consisting of the riddle cards, help cards and answer cards alongside the decoder disk that you'll use to direct you to specific answer cards.
Gameplay
The game takes place on a train, The Orient
Express, and it is a murder mystery. So, not only are you solving the
typical 10 puzzle sequence, you'll have to deduce who is the murderer based on everyone's alibi, the clues scattered about and the evidence given.Puzzles/Thoughts
➕ Cool concept. Unlike the other games in the Exit series, this is the only one (that I'm aware of) that's murder mystery based and I always love a good mystery!
➖Components are aite. Not great, not bad.
➖No huge dopamine. While the puzzles were fine, I didn't feel a great sense of satisfaction from solving the puzzles. The puzzles just didn't feel unique enough, they felt quite samey from other escape room games.
✖️ Destruction required. Some of the components have to be cut or folded which requires me to print out the components in order to resell it.
Verdict
Dead Man on the Orient Express is a neat little game that's fine for most people. While I had fun with it, it did not scratch my puzzle itch. I would recommend this game for beginners and even intermediate escape room gamers but veteran gamers may not enjoy it as much due to its lack of puzzle satisfaction.
